It all happened in 8 days, from first contact to air time. I got an email from a Good Morning America producer asking me if I’d like to talk about motherhood and antidepressants/anti-anxiety meds on TV. Obviously, I asked a lot of questions; I didn’t want to be ambushed by some segment claiming that taking meds was bad. She was absolutely lovely, and a mom of four, so after getting some more details, I agreed. I then immediately got my hair trimmed and bought makeup–they were going to film me at my house!
Yes, I freaked out. But my mother-in-law was here when I got the call confirming that it would happen, so she frantically cleaned for me while Walter (obviously) insisted on eating for hours, nonstop. By the time they arrived, our apartment looked better than it ever has.
The “crew” I was worried about was actually just a “camera man” and a “sound guy.” I was feeling really terrible, sick to my stomach, and I thought it was nerves. Fortunately, the amazing Kate Sullivan, doula extraordinaire, came over and helped me breath. She brought ginger ale. It was like I was in labor again! (That all started with vomiting as well…) She did have awesome eyeliner for me to borrow, and I can’t even begin to describe how helpful she was in calming me down. Again. A very different kind of birth! If you are in Connecticut and pregnant, hire this woman! Ok, that’s my endorsement of Kate.
It all went well, I think. We’ll have to see what it looks like tomorrow all edited and fancy for TV! I have no idea what it’s going to look like or when during the show it will air. The show is on at 8:00 am EST/7:00 am CST but lasts for two hours. I am hoping to get a copy of our segment on DVD, or at least a link I can put up here. All I know is that they filmed an interview with me, and “got footage” of me and Walt playing, nursing and at the computer. They also got footage of me taking my meds, which seems totally uninteresting to me, but I’ll let the experts decide! By the way, I am wearing a fabulous top from Stitch Fix, and Walt is wearing an adorable, super-soft tee that says “Full of Awesome” from Do Not Faint sponsor Pigtail Pals & Ballcap Buddies. Many thanks to Kate for taking these pictures, which I can now share with you:
